Margaret Gaulton
Retired Teacher
My husband and I came to the Latrobe Valley because of employment opportunities – he as the SEC Geologist and me as a teacher.
My teaching career encompassed visual & language arts, special education and student welfare. It spanned the educational levels from pre-school, through primary and secondary teaching, to tertiary.
Over approximately fifty years, brown coal and mining became very much part of the life of our family in this wonderfully picturesque and productive part of Victoria.
With the scheduled conclusion of mining and associated power generation endeavour in the Latrobe Valley, it has become important to us to use our accumulated professional and experiential knowledge of this unique area to contribute to the rehabilitation and repurposing of the mine-lands. We seek to urge those charged with the implementation of this monumental task to act in research-based and imaginative ways to leave a legacy that benefits locals, our state, Victoria and our nation, Australia.
