Opportunities:
The Importance of a Plan

Having spoken with nearly all interested parties, GLP believes the interested parties’ objectives are not aligned and the interests of the Latrobe Valley community appear inconsequential to what is happening. In order to overcome the lack of engagement and commitment of interested parties in repurposing of mine sites, GLP believes an external independent eminent Australian leader is required to lead development of this plan.

As Yallourn and Hazelwood mine sites are physically adjoining, GLP believes they should be considered as one integrated site for planning and that an integrated plan, considering all mine sites, needs to address economic development, liveability considerations as well as solutions to entrenched disadvantage.

A plan would allow early use of plant and equipment that is on site for rehabilitation purposes and allow works associated with the plan to be conducted at an incremental cost compared with site establishment and plant and equipment transport costs for repurposing works required after rehabilitation is completed.
