Opportunities:
Visual Amenity

The current visual landscape of the Latrobe Valley is dominated by power stations structures and their emissions. In a little over a decade, all of those structures and emissions will be gone and the adjacent mine will be in the process of being either partially or totally filled with water.

GLP believes this will positively change the landscape of the Latrobe Valley. The Latrobe Valley’s image could also be enhanced with appropriate access, attractive scenery, tourism, commercial and liveability drawcards established on the mine lands. GLP believes that changing the landscape between the Princes Freeway By-pass of Morwell and the Hazelwood mine will also substantially improve the aesthetic image of Latrobe City. Additionally, GLP believes that Mowell township needs to be physically connected to the Hazelwood mine via an extension of either Hazelwood Road or Tarwin Street over the Princes Freeway By-pass of Morwell. Attention to these matters is of potential significance to the image of Latrobe City in the eyes of those who drive through and the liveability of those who live here or might choose to live here.
